Hi there. So it's that time again, I'm at a crossroads regarding birth control. I'm switching from a pill to a more reliable, longterm version of the pill, but I can't decide what to go for despite extensive research on my part.
Here's what I narrowed it down to: Implanin, the matchstic arm implant which releases hormones that prevent pregnancy, or Paragard, the Copper T IUD which does not release hormones, but does release small amounts of copper which kills off sperm.
Yes, i'm well-versed and well-educated in birth control; I've been on BC in various forms since sixteen, and so I'm just looking for user feedback from any of you ladies who might be using either method. I should also mention that I have given birth to one child via CSection, and had not had a vaginal birth. I should point out that I'm not really interested in Mirenna.
I would gladly go for the Implant, but it's widely known for weight gain and mood swings, and I'm not interested in experiencing any of that, really.
Paraguard has it's own set of short comings, but I mainly worry about cramping and pain during intercourse for either myself or my partner. Maybe this is TMI, but my partner is rather well-endowed, and I'm worried the string might cause him discomfort.
Well, anyway, keep em coming, guys. I'll have to made my decision pretty soon, and I'd like feedback from a diverse community.
Also, if there are any guys who might be willing to offer up guy perspectives on being with a girl who has an IUD, I'd appreciate the feedback .
Thanks much

I can only answer the question of pain for a guy, because it doesn't seem to bother a woman at all.
The newest one was made of a soft plastic,or something, and I don't know the technical term for the one she had. If the string on it is dry you feel it more, but its not to bad. The more lube the less you feel that string or the cap, because it moves up or over as it is pushed.
Posission matters as well, because in some you don't notice it at all.
Hope that helps.

You can ask the doctor to cut the strings at insertion, but it tends to make them feel sharper. If you leave them long they'll soffen, but if your a tampon or cup user this could be more problematic. If you do choose to get them cut shorter make sure it's long enough for the monthy check.

I use the paraguard myself as I was talking to you about this in qn's . I honestly have no problems with it and never had any. I was told of some period issues mainly if I got mine, but I had none of those issues. My body took to it well and I felt no pain when I got it inserted. I have a friend who took the implanon and she said it made her gain a ton of weight, so if I were going for birth control that would concern me as I wouldn't want to get fat from birth control methods.

Yeah, exactly. I heard the same about implanin. That's the main turn off for me regarding that method of BC. if it weren't pretty much guaranteed that I'd likely become something of a beech whale after having it implanted, I'd opt for that one as it seems to be less invasive up front. But I'm going to go for the paraguard, so as to avoid the extreme weight gain which is reportedly hard to shake, even after the removal of Implanin.

I had a friend that got an IUD planted inside her. She said there was a little discomfort as it was inserted but then it went away. I think she took some pain meds and was fine after that. If I remember correctly she bled a little at first but that also stopped quickly. Hope this bit of advice helps. Good luck and let us know how it goes for you hope you won't be in any real bad pain!
